The West End Restaurant Announces Management Changes and Welcomes New Executive Chef
The West End is excited to announce a new leadership and culinary team for the upscale New American restaurant, located steps from Cape Cod’s famed Melody Tent music venue in Hyannis’ historic West End.
Founding partner and owner Jen Villa is joined by new co-owner and operating partner Blane Toedt, who brings nearly 25 years’ experience in the hospitality industry to his role.
Toedt comes to The West End from Willowbend, Cape Cod’s premier private club, where he had been Director of Food & Beverage since 2016. Prior to that, Toedt was Food & Beverage Manager at The Bay Club at Mattapoisett. He has held various positions in the industry since 1995.
In Toedt’s day-to-day role as General Manager at The West End, he will work closely with the staff and culinary team to strengthen the restaurant’s service program, diversify its wine and beverage lists, and provide a memorable guest experience.
“I am thrilled for the next phase of The West End’s success,” said Villa. “We have a fantastic team already, and Blane’s experience and dedication to excellence will help us refine our approach to hospitality even further.”
In June 2017, Villa and former co-owner David Noble set out to give new life to a space long beloved as The Paddock, keeping what was special about their one-hundred-year-old iconic location while creating an inviting and modern dining experience. Since that time, The West End has become a sought-after destination for socializing, enjoying great food with friends, and celebrating life’s most treasured moments.
New Executive Chef Brings Passion for Scratch Cooking and Community Involvement
As part of the restaurant’s refreshed direction, co-owners Villa and Toedt are delighted to welcome Executive Chef Joseph Ellia to The West End team. Most recently, Ellia was with The Black Dog Tavern, following five years as Executive Chef of Bear and Boots Gastropub in Falmouth. With twenty years’ experience in the restaurant industry, Ellia is known for his love of scratch cooking and creating locally sourced dishes.
In 2018, Ellia was recognized as Chef of the Year by the American Culinary Federation Cape Cod & Islands, of which he is chapter secretary. He is a 2019 winner of Cape & Plymouth Business Magazine’s 40 Under 40 Award as well as a 2017 winner of FSR Magazine’s 30 Under 30 Award.
Ellia serves on advisory boards for the Falmouth Service Center and Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical High School, from which he graduated in 2004. As a board member of the ACF Cape Cod chapter he works with several local non-profit organizations including Cape Kids Meals.
“Chef Joseph’s passion for great food, consistency, and community are a perfect fit for The West End’s mission,” said Toedt, the restaurant’s new co-owner. “We’re honored to have a creative professional of his caliber leading our kitchen as well as the evolution of our menu.”
